“It’s a way to take the ELEMENTS experience home with you,” said Joel Hanson, referring to the new ELEMENTS worship cd that will be available to purchase next week at Westwood. “We also wanted to provide people a tool to use to introduce their friends God’s story and even to the ELEMENTS service” added ELEMENTS worship producer Tami Stordahl. “We see it as part of the “Giving Away” piece of Westwood’s vision and encourage people to use it to reach out to others.”
Since the ELEMENTS service began a little over a year ago, people have been asking where they can get the music they enjoy at ELEMENTS. “We thought it would be great to do a recording of some of the favorite songs,” said Tami, “recorded the way we sing them together.” Songs were selected that the band had “made their own,” that had become an intrinsic part of the ELEMENTS service. “We could have done 30 songs,” said Joel, “though only 10 would fit on the CD.”
Everybody in the ELEMENTS band played a significant part on the project; helping to select the songs as well as playing on the recording, which was done in Joel Hanson’s studio. Joel and Aaron produced the project and Matt (bass guitar player) mixed the recording in his studio. “It was fun to use our skills and occupation to do something that benefits the body,” said Joel. The band started on the project around the middle of October. “It took a month to get the copyright permissions and put things together, track and vocals, and to get the songs where they needed to be,” said Joel. Tami Stordahl coordinated the overall CD project and Westwood graphic designer Amy Hazen created the CD art.
Joel believes the CD turned out really well. “It captures the heart of what we do together as a congregation. It can be a vehicle that can help people remember how God has worked in their lives through their time at ELEMENTS.” Purchase an ELEMENTS CD for yourself and give one to a friend as a gift!
